ABOUT THIS PROJECT & Thanks
Years ago, I used to go into my kid’s classrooms and do “story time”- after reading a book, I started writing songs about the various stories and would play them for the kids. They seemed to dig it, so I thought it would be a lot of fun to create a music video series based on fun children’s books- I tried to sell the idea to HBO, Nick, and a bunch of other media companies, but no one seemed to get the idea…..fast forward a decade or so later when the pandemic hit…..I bounced the idea of doing a kid’s record with the Dirt Nappers, and everyone seemed into it. We each worked on tracks in our respective studios, had a few zoom meetings to discuss arrangements and put out the call to a few old friends to lend a hand. After months of bouncing files around, we ended up with this record- a tribute to some great children’s books, and what I think is some pretty decent kid’s music that doesn’t make an average adult crazy. We hope you dig it, too.
Some of these books have been around a while, some are relatively new.
For me, each one of these were so much fun, they just had to have songs written for them.
I want to thank the Dirt Nappers- Mike “Booker” Heaphy, Daniel A. Weiss, Thad DeBrock, Tony Tino, and Tommy Deihl, who embraced this project like a regular rock and roll record and brought their “A-Game” to the recordings. While we recording, Tommy and his wife even popped out a little kid of their own. Tommy’s well prepared and schooled in the world of children’s books already!
A special shout out to Ms. Sherryl Marshall who has worked with me over the years on other records, but took it to another level on this one- I can’t thank you enough for your help, creativity and energy on this record-this just would not have happened without you.
I also thought this record would benefit from some outside help…so we reached out to a few Old friends- Having people like Porter Carroll, Soozie Tyrell, Charlie Giordano, Tania Elizabeth And Johnny Jake come in and lend their chops to these songs was awe inspiring….I can’t thank you enough for Bringing Your MUSIC to these songs.
Thank you to the multi-Talented Rob Steen for the Amazing cover illustration, and for hanging out for a few late nights in front of the mixing board, with a nip or two of bourbon at the ready.
And Lastly, thanks mom- for teaching Me How to read.
